Tragedy at Camber Sands: Three Dead, One Critical After Water Rescue
Heartbreak at Camber Sands beach today as three people have died despite desperate efforts by emergency crews. A fourth victim is now fighting for their life in hospital after being pulled from the water.
Emergency Response Launched Within Minutes
At around 2.15pm on August 24, the UK Coastguard received a distress call reporting three people in urgent need of medical help. Rapid response teams sprang into action.
- Rescue helicopters from Lydd and Lee-on-Solent scrambled immediately
- Dungeness and 1 Bay Coastguard Rescue Teams dispatched to the scene
- Rye Harbour RNLI lifeboat launched
- Senior Coastal Operations Officer overseeing the rescue
- Air ambulance also rushed to Camber Sands
Airlifted to Hospital But Too Late for Three
All victims were airlifted to hospital by Air 1 helicopter. Sadly, three later died despite the best efforts of medics. One remains in critical condition fighting for life.
The cause of the incident is still under investigation.
