Hailsham Foodbank Delivers Over 750 Emergency Food Parcels This Christmas
Hailsham Foodbank, backed by the Trussell Trust’s national network, fought hunger head-on this festive season. They handed out more than 755 emergency food parcels to struggling families in and around Hailsham over Christmas.
Temporary Storage Space Secured to Keep Foodbank Running
The local council has stepped in with a temporary storage solution while the charity hunts for permanent digs. The new space, located in Vicarage Lane, Hailsham, is exclusively for storing food donations.
Councillor Pam Doodes, Wealden’s Community portfolio holder, said: “We are pleased to have been able to provide storage for Hailsham Foodbank, as it is a lifeline to some of our residents within the district.”
She added, “The storage will allow the charity to continue the hard work it does to deliver food to residents in need.”
Foodbank Manager Praises Council for Crucial Support
Julie Coates, manager of Hailsham Foodbank, thanked the council for their vital help: “We really value the space and without it we wouldn’t have been able to cope. We gave out 755 emergency food parcels between 1-23 December — our busiest month in ten years. It’s been quite a challenge.”
She reminded people that foodbank vouchers must still be taken to the main foodbank at 4 Market Square, Hailsham to collect parcels. The new storage is not a collection point.
