11 Year Girl Dies after Fall from Water Ride at Drayton Manor in Staffordshire

An 11-year-old girl has died on a school trip after falling from a rapids ride at Drayton Manor theme park. The park said the Splash Canyon rapids ride was shut on Tuesday after she fell into the water. Staffordshire Police said the girl, believed to be from the Leicester area, was airlifted to Birmingham Children’s Hospital at about 14:20pm She was confirmed dead shortly after arrival at hospital. The Health and Safety Executive has been informed of the incident. Company Director at Drayton Manor Theme Park, George Bryan said “Further to the police statement which has been issued to yourself and your colleagues a few moments ago, it is with great sadness that we have to report that a young girl has passed away at Birmingham Children’s Hospital following an incident at one of our rides this afternoon.” West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “An ambulance, a senior paramedic officer, a paramedic area support officer, a rapid response paramedic, a community first responder and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Staffordshire were sent to the scene. The first resource was on scene within seven minutes.” On arrival, crews discovered a girl with serious injuries who had been rescued from the water by park staff. Ambulance staff administered advanced life support before she was flown to Birmingham Children’s Hospital with the doctor continuing treatment en-route. Unfortunately, shortly after arrival at hospital the girl passed away.
