The clip, posted by @londonhotspots, captures the car submerged in the water with its windscreen wipers on, while onlookers on the bridge observe the scene. The video is captioned “never a good idea to park on a hill next to the river” and features the song “Oh No” by Kreepa, often used in videos depicting disastrous incidents.
Several comments on the video mention similar incidents, highlighting the reputation of the area. One commenter recalls a schoolmate losing a car in the same location in 1993, while another admits having taken the risk but avoiding mishaps.
According to the London Fire Brigade, the car was parked on a slipway during low tide and was subsequently swept away by the rising tide. Emergency services, including police officers and fire crews, were called to the scene on July 2 at approximately 2:30 PM after reports of a car in the water. The car was successfully recovered from the river and positioned above the high tide mark.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported in connection with the incident. London Fire Brigade spokesperson confirmed that firefighters responded to the reports and managed to remove the car from the water. The incident serves as a reminder of the potential risks associated with parking near the river during tide changes.
