Adrian Dunbar Gives Candid Update on Line of Duty’s Future

Line of Duty star Adrian Dunbar has told fans there is still “no definite news” on the hit BBC drama’s return, despite ongoing speculation and past hints that series seven could be on the way.

Appearing on This Morning on Thursday, 7 August, Dunbar was in the studio to discuss his current ITV detective drama Ridley. However, hosts Joel Dommett and Emma Willis couldn’t resist asking him about the police corruption thriller that made him a household name.

“When it happens, yes, absolutely we’ll be excited to go back,” Dunbar said. “We actually don’t know if it’s going to happen. I called my agent this morning to see if there was any more news, but there isn’t any more real definite news about it, sadly, so we’re just going to have to wait.”

The actor, best known for his role as Superintendent Ted Hastings, said both he and his co-stars Vicky McClure and Martin Compston are eager to reprise their roles if the opportunity comes.

Line of Duty’s sixth series concluded in 2021, drawing over 15 million viewers for its finale and sparking years of rumours about a follow-up. Over the past year, cast members have given mixed signals — with McClure and Compston both hinting at a possible return, and Dunbar himself previously suggesting series seven was on the horizon.

For now, however, the future of AC-12 remains uncertain.
