Armed Police Called to Newport Address following concerns for Man’s Welfare

Armed police have been deployed to an address in Rooke Street in Newport on the Isle of Wight after concerns were raised for the welfare of a man. Officers were called on Monday evening just after 6pm. A Dog unit is also supporting the officers along with further emergency services. Officers are talking with the distressed Man to resolve the situation. The road has been closed. Hampshire Police have said: Due to the circumstances of what had been reported to the police, a decision was made to deploy armed officers. Police say there is no wider risk to the public.
