Detectives have launched an investigation after a house in Marden was destroyed in a suspected arson attack during the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Emergency services were called at around 12.40am on 20 August to reports of a fire at a vacant property in Battle Lane. The blaze quickly spread to outbuildings, with multiple fire crews from Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) tackling the flames for several hours before bringing them under control.

Police officers also attended the scene to assist with safety and traffic management. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.

Investigation underway

The property, which was unoccupied at the time, has been left severely damaged. Kent Police has confirmed that the fire is being treated as suspicious, and detectives from West Kent CID are leading the inquiry.

A spokesperson for the force said:

“We are working closely with fire investigators to establish the circumstances of the blaze. At this stage it is believed to have been started deliberately, and we are appealing for anyone who was in the area overnight or who has information to come forward.”
