Kitchen Fire at Rochester Hotel Prompts Emergency Response

Emergency crews from Kent Fire and Rescue Service were called to a kitchen fire at a hotel in Strood, Rochester on Sunday evening (March 23).

The incident was reported at 6:24pm, and two fire engines were swiftly dispatched to the scene. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus tackled the blaze using hose reel jets, successfully extinguishing the fire within minutes.

Hotel Briefly Evacuated

As a precaution, the hotel was briefly evacuated while crews dealt with the incident. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and guests were allowed to return to the premises shortly after the fire was brought under control.

Cause: Pan Fire on Hob

Fire investigators believe the blaze began when a pan caught alight on the hob, a common cause of kitchen fires. The fire was contained to the kitchen area and did not spread to other parts of the hotel.

Safety Reminder from Fire Services

Kent Fire and Rescue Service issued a timely reminder to the public about fire safety in the kitchen, urging residents and businesses to take extra care.

“It’s important to take extra care in the kitchen and keep cooking areas clean and clear of anything that could catch fire,” a spokesperson said.
“Always remember not to leave cooking unattended, and switch off appliances if you need to leave the room.”

No Further Risk to Public

The hotel resumed normal operations shortly after the scene was declared safe by fire crews. The swift and effective response helped minimise disruption and ensured the safety of guests and staff.
