London Fire Brigade has issued a warning to the public as an amber wildfire alert is in effect across the capital ahead of an unseasonably warm stretch of weather.
Common causes of wildfires include:

  • Cigarettes not fully extinguished
  • Disposable barbecues left unattended or still hot
  • Glass bottles magnifying sunlight
  • Litter or rubbish acting as fuel

Working With Partners

The London Fire Brigade says it is working closely with local authorities and landowners to reduce the risk of fires and educate the public on safe behaviour during dry spells.

“We’re taking this warning seriously and ask the public to do the same,” said McCourt. “If everyone plays their part, we can reduce the risk of fires and keep people safe.”

A Message for the Weekend

With warm weather expected to draw crowds to parks, gardens, and open spaces this weekend, the brigade’s message is clear: enjoy the sunshine safely, but be fire aware.

Londoners are encouraged to follow updates from the Met Office and the London Fire Brigade’s official social media channels for the latest safety advice.
