A man has been arrested following a violent assault on two people near The White Hart public house in Newton Abbot during the early hours of this morning.
Devon and Cornwall Police were called to East Street at around 12:50 AM after reports that a man and a woman had been assaulted by another man.
Emergency services attended the scene, where they found a woman in her 40s and a man in his 50s suffering from injuries. Both victims received initial treatment from paramedics before being transported to Torbay Hospital. Police have confirmed that neither victim’s injuries are life-threatening or life-changing.
The suspect fled the scene after the assault, prompting an immediate police search. Shortly after, officers tracked the man to a nearby address where a man in his 50s was arrested on suspicion of two counts of attempted murder. He is currently in police custody.
