Man Arrested in Portland Road for Carrying Knife

A swift police response led to the arrest of a man carrying a knife on Portland Road, SE25, earlier today.

Metropolitan Police confirmed they were called at 12:13hrs on Friday, 21 February following reports from concerned members of the public about a man seen with a bladed weapon.

Officers arrived on the scene within just seven minutes and swiftly detained the suspect. He was arrested on suspicion of possession of a bladed article and is currently being held in custody.

A spokesperson for the Met Police said: “We can confirm a man was arrested on suspicion of carrying a bladed article on Portland Road. Thanks to the quick response of our officers, he was apprehended without incident. He remains in custody, and our enquiries are ongoing.”

No injuries were reported, and the incident did not result in any further threats to public safety.

Local residents expressed relief at the prompt police action. One passerby, Jessica Martin, 34, said: “It’s scary to think that someone was walking around with a knife, but I’m really thankful the police acted so quickly.”
