At around 9:45pm, crews rushed to Phyllis Avenue after reports of a fierce fire. Firefighters arriving found a car completely ablaze, with flames spreading quickly to the adjacent mosque building. Teams from Preston Circus and Roedean tackled the inferno using breathing apparatus and firefighting foam. Thankfully, no injuries were reported to worshippers or the public.
Local leaders voiced shock and solidarity. Keith Glazier, Leader of East Sussex County Council, described the attack as “horribly shocking” and promised close collaboration with emergency services to protect community harmony.
