Pedestrian hit by Car in Ryde

A Shopper has been taken to hospital with “non life-threatening injuries” after being hit by a car outside the Edinburgh Woollen Mill store on Garfield Road in Ryde  this lunchtime. Eyewitnesses claim to have heard the driver of  VW Touran car “my breaks have failed” before it left the road and mounted the pavement, knocking down a pedestrian. Emergency services attended the lunchtime incident and the  was taken to hospital. An Isle of Wight  Ambulance service spokesperson said: “We were called at just after 12.20pm today to reports of a pedestrian having been knocked over near Edinburgh Woollen Mill store in Ryde, “We attended with a Rapid Response Vehicle and an Emergency Ambulance and an  adult has been conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.” A spokesman for Hampshire and Isle of Wight  Police confirmed police attended a road traffic collision at just after 12.20pm today (Friday). He said: “A  VW Touran and a  pedestrian were involved in the collision. The pedestrian has been taken to hospital by ambulance. “”Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to contact Hampshire  Police on 101.
