Ten people reported for motoring offences following a traffic operation by Kent Police in Folkestone

Local officers worked with the Kent Special Constabulary to set up road checks on Wednesday 20 December 2023.

The operation included Sandgate Hill, Princes Parade, Cheriton Road and The Leas, and was chosen following residents’ concerns in those areas.

It is the latest work to be carried out by local officers in the district as part of an ongoing campaign which aims to promote road safety and enforce when offences are committed.

Ten drivers were reported for offences; four for speeding, one for using a mobile phone and a further five for not wearing a seatbelt.

One vehicle was recorded as doing 60mph along Princes Parade, where the speed limit is 40mph, and another was seen travelling at 39mph in the Leas, which has a speed limit of 20mph.

Sergeant Kevin Marsh from Folkestone and Hythe Victim Based Crime Team said: ‘As well as reporting ten people, we also spoke to another 18 drivers and passengers in relation to other driving safety matters including seat belt use, condition of their vehicles, speed, number plate use and mobile phone use.

‘The campaign is as much about education as it is about enforcement and the results from this latest operation show that people must consider behaviour when behind the wheel or riding a motorcycle. Be aware and alert to the road ahead of you and always carry out checks on your vehicle before you travel to ensure it is safe.’
