The music world mourns the loss of John Gosling, the talented keyboard player for the legendary English rock band, The Kinks. Gosling, who joined the band in 1970, passed away at the age of 75, leaving behind a rich musical legacy.

Gosling’s journey with The Kinks began seven years after the band’s formation by Sir Ray Davies, Dave Davies, Peter Quaife, and Mick Avory. His audition was a pivotal moment in the band’s history, contributing to the recording session of their iconic 1970 hit song, “Lola,” which reached number two on the singles charts.

The Kinks announced John Gosling’s passing through a heartfelt statement posted on their social media page. They expressed their deep sadness and conveyed their condolences to John’s wife and family.

“We are deeply saddened by the news of the passing of John Gosling,” the band said. “We are sending our condolences to John’s wife and family.”

Sir Ray Davies, lead vocalist of The Kinks, paid tribute to his dear friend and former bandmate, stating, “Condolences to his wife Theresa and family. Rest in peace, dearest John.”

Dave Davies, the band’s lead guitarist, also offered his heartfelt condolences, describing Gosling as a “great musician and a great man.” He expressed his dismay and deep sadness at the loss, emphasizing Gosling’s significant contributions to The Kinks’ music during his time with the band.

“He has been a friend and important contributor to The Kinks’ music during his time with us. Deepest sympathies to his wife and family,” Dave Davies added.

Mick Avory, the original drummer of The Kinks, remembered Gosling as a “great musician who had a fantastic sense of humour.” Avory reflected on the happy memories they shared together and offered his blessings to John’s memory.

Gosling’s tenure with The Kinks spanned from 1970 to 1977, during which he played a significant role in hits like “Apeman” and “Supersonic Rocket Ship,” both of which reached the top 10 on the UK charts. After his departure from the band, Gordon Edwards took over as the keyboard player before Ian Gibbons joined in 1979.

In 1994, John Gosling became a founding member of The Kast Off Kinks, a band comprising former members Avory, Jim Rodford, John Dalton, and Dave Clarke. Gosling continued his musical journey with the group until his retirement in 2008.

Throughout their career, The Kinks achieved incredible chart success with three number one singles in the UK, including “You Really Got Me,” “Sunny Afternoon,” and “Tired Of Waiting For You.”

The music world will remember John Gosling not only for his remarkable contributions to The Kinks’ iconic sound but also for the joy and inspiration he brought to countless fans around the world. His legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of music enthusiasts for generations to come.
