Cherbourg, November 25, 2023 – In a critical operation early Sunday morning, November 26, 2023, the regional operational center for surveillance and rescue (CROSS) Gris-Nez coordinated a rescue mission for thirty-five individuals in the Strait of Pas-de-Calais.

The CROSS Gris-Nez initially dispatched the maritime surveillance vessel (VCSM) Aber Wrac’h of the maritime gendarmerie to assist a migrant boat in distress off the coast of Boulogne-sur-Mer. However, the individuals on board initially refused the offered assistance. Maintaining close coordination, the VCSM Aber Wrac’h continued to monitor the vessel.
