Body Found in Search for Missing Ilford Woman Yajaira Castro Mendez as Man Charged with Murder – UKNIP

A body has been discovered in Hampshire during the search for Yajaira Castro Mendez, who was reported missing from Ilford, East London on 29 May. The development comes just one day after a man known to her appeared in court charged with her murder.

Police confirmed the discovery on Saturday, 7 June, stating that while formal identification is pending, Yajaira’s family has been informed. A post-mortem examination is expected to take place “in due course.”


Murder Investigation Launched

The Metropolitan Police launched a murder investigation shortly after Yajaira’s disappearance, citing suspicious circumstances surrounding her vanishing. On Friday, 6 June, a man was charged with murder and remanded into custody following a court appearance. He has not been named at this stage but is confirmed to have been known to the victim.


Police Appeal for Information

Detective Inspector Jay Gregory, leading the investigation, said:

“This is a very sad development in the investigation and our thoughts are very much with Yajaira’s family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.

We continue to appeal to anyone with information that could assist the investigation to please come forward.”
