A Labour councillor known for his pro-Low Traffic Neighbourhood (LTN) stance and clean air advocacy has reportedly had his 3L diesel Jaguar stolen from outside his home in Enfield.
The red Jaguar, registration number OE16 GKG, was stolen from Hoe Lane on the night of December 31, 2024. The owner, Rick Jewell, shared a post on social media asking residents to report any sightings of the vehicle to the police, referencing CAD6158/31DEC24.
Irony Not Lost on Residents
The theft has sparked mixed reactions online, with some residents pointing out the perceived irony of a clean air advocate owning a diesel car. One comment humorously suggested the councillor might now “have to buy a bike and cycle like the rest of us.
The vehicle was last seen being taken to Emilia Close, and police are investigating the incident.
Community Appeal
Residents are encouraged to report any information about the stolen vehicle to the police by calling 101 and quoting the incident reference. The distinctive red Jaguar has already garnered attention online, and locals are being asked to remain vigilant.
Pro-LTN Advocacy
The councillor has been a vocal supporter of LTNs, which aim to reduce vehicle traffic and improve air quality. However, his choice of a 3L diesel Jaguar has drawn criticism from some quarters, with suggestions that it contradicts his environmental stance.
This incident highlights ongoing debates surrounding LTNs and clean air policies, as well as the challenges of vehicle theft in urban areas.
