Canterbury residents and visitors are being urged to step forward with any information they may have regarding the tragic death of a swan in the area.
The distressing incident occurred on Sunday, February 11, 2024, at approximately 5:40 PM, when a member of the public made a distressing discovery near the coach park off Kingsmead Road, adjacent to the River Stour. The lifeless body of a cygnet was found, bearing a visible head injury.
Reports suggest that the incident may be linked to the presence of four teenage boys who were allegedly engaging in antisocial behaviour in the vicinity at the time. Following the discovery, these individuals reportedly fled the scene, heading towards the nearby Sainsbury’s supermarket.
Authorities from Kent Police’s Rural Task Force have launched an investigation into the matter and are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or have relevant information to come forward. Any detail, no matter how insignificant it may seem, could prove vital in shedding light on the circumstances surrounding the swan’s tragic demise.
