Mohammed Rasool, 44, has been locked up for six years and ten months after a shocking assault on two police officers in Crawley. The violent thug admitted grievous bodily harm, robbery, racially aggravated assault, and more at Hove Crown Court on 19 March.

Savage Attack on Officers

Rasool was wanted on a warrant after skipping court for a robbery charge. When officers tried to arrest him at his Gossops Drive home, he launched a ferocious assault. Two female police officers suffered horrifying injuries after Rasool gouged their eyes, bit them, yanked their hair, and battered them with a mobile phone.

One officer was left with permanent eye damage. She said, “When I felt fingers over my face like a spider trying to locate my eye socket, I feared the worst. I don’t think I will ever forget this.”

Another said it was the worst attack in her 28 years on the force and described the fear she felt trying to protect herself and her team.

Violent History and Road Rage Rampage

Rasool’s violent streak wasn’t limited to the police assault. The court heard he was involved in two nasty road-rage incidents near Gatwick Airport:

  • On 3 May 2024, he racially abused and attacked a taxi driver.
  • On 28 June 2024, he punched another driver through a car window and stole his phone before fleeing.

After being charged, Rasool failed to show for court, sparking the arrest attempt and ensuing brutal attack on officers.

Police Speak Out

Detective Chief Inspector Pauline Lane slammed Rasool’s violence as “truly shocking”.

“The road-rage incidents were appalling enough, but he then unleashed a vicious and sustained assault on officers who were there to protect the public. Rasool is clearly a violent and dangerous individual, and I am pleased he is serving a significant custodial sentence.”
