Nearly 60 firefighters battled a raging blaze at a shop with flats above on Southwark Park Road, Bermondsey, last night (March 25).

A child was dramatically saved from a third-floor flat using a fire escape hood, shielding them from thick smoke. Miraculously, no injuries were reported.

Station Commander Tony Perks said: “Initial crews faced a very intense fire on arrival and worked swiftly to bring it under control and ensure residents in flats above the shop were safe.”
He warned road closures remain in place and urged locals to steer clear for several hours as fire crews continue their work.
