Pharmacists have sounded the alarm over possible medicine shortages in Berkshire and across the UK due to the ongoing Middle East conflict.

Global Supply Chains Under Strain

The Independent Pharmacies Association (IPA) warns that turmoil overseas could disrupt vital pharmaceutical supply chains. Raw materials needed for medicines may become “harder to source” as rising energy prices, transport derailments, and shipping delays pile on.

“While no immediate crisis is here yet, the global nature of supply means conflicts far away can trigger knock-on effects at home,” said the IPA.

Patients Urged to Act Now

Pharmacies are already battling supply headaches. The IPA warns that continued instability risks longer waits for some prescriptions. Patients are urged to order repeat prescriptions early and chat with their pharmacist if they have any medication worries.
