The situation was dire enough to trigger a major rescue operation, with Pett Level Independent Rescue Boat volunteers quickly launching their vessel after a Coastguard alert at 4.28pm.
Once ashore at Pett Level boathouse, Coastguard teams checked his welfare and made sure he had food and drink.
