The grieving wife of Christopher Packer, a beloved father and avid fisherman who tragically lost his life after falling into Draycote Water near Rugby, has paid an emotional tribute to the 54-year-old, describing him as a man who “brought happiness, joy and laughter to all he met.”

Christopher was reported missing on Thursday 29 May after he and his teenage son fell into the water during a fishing trip. His son was rescued unharmed by two members of the public, but despite extensive efforts, Christopher remained missing.

Following a large-scale search involving police, fire, ambulance, and search and rescue teams, his body was discovered the following evening, Friday 30 May.

In a heartfelt statement released by Warwickshire Police, Christopher’s wife said:

“Although I cannot believe you are not with us anymore, I know that you were doing what you loved the most – fishing and being with our beautiful son.
You lived your life in such a good way and brought happiness, joy, and laughter to all you met; you will forever be missed by everyone.”

She continued:

“You departed this world far too early and left behind your family and friends who miss you more than words can say. You will live in our hearts forever and can now rest in peace.”

Gratitude to Rescuers and Emergency Services

Christopher’s wife also offered deep thanks to those who assisted during the traumatic events:

“Firstly, the amazing fishermen who were there that day and able to rescue my son – words cannot ever be enough and ‘thank you’ doesn’t even come close. Your actions saved a most precious young life.”

She praised the emergency responders for their compassion and professionalism:

“To Warwickshire Police, Fire, Ambulance, and Search and Rescue teams, who worked incredibly hard in difficult conditions… your professional and reassuring manner brought comfort at the darkest of times.”

She also thanked the local community for their respect and support, saying:

“I appreciate the impact this will have had on the local community and businesses affected and want to say thank you for respecting our privacy.”

Warwickshire Police have reiterated their thanks to the public and media for respecting the privacy of the Packer family at this difficult time.
