A 13-year-old boy has been arrested after a 12-year-old child died when he was thrown from a roundabout at Wharton Recreation Ground in Winsford.
The victim, named locally as Logan Carter, suffered fatal injuries on Friday evening (29 August) while playing with friends. Despite the efforts of emergency responders, he was declared dead at the scene near Ledward Street.
Police said the arrest was made on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving following reports that an electric bike was used to spin the roundabout at high speed. The teenager has since been released under investigation while enquiries continue.
Family tributes
Logan’s father, Rob, paid a heartfelt tribute online, writing:
“This was a deeply tragic incident involving a very young victim.
Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of the boy who sadly died at the scene.
As part of our investigation, we are asking anyone who may have been in or around the Wharton Recreation Ground area at the time and saw anything that may aid us to please get in touch.
I would also like to ask the public not to feed into speculation, particularly on social media, as this remains an ongoing investigation.”
Next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.
