A 19-year-old man from Watford has been sentenced to 22 years in prison after being convicted of two counts of attempted murder and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life following a shooting in Bushey last year.
Almamie Jawara, of Leveret Close, appeared at St Albans Crown Court today (Monday 9 June), where a jury found him guilty in connection with a shooting at Woolmerdine Court on the afternoon of Sunday 15 September 2024.
The court heard that nine shots were fired at a property, with two additional shots aimed at residents who came outside to investigate. Miraculously, no one was injured in the incident.
Swift Police Response and Tactical Deployment
The shooting triggered a major police response, including armed units and a police helicopter, after Jawara fled the scene on a Sur-Ron style electric motorbike. He was tracked down and arrested 11 days later, on 26 September 2024.
During sentencing, the presiding judge described Jawara’s actions as showing a “wanton disregard for the safety of others”, and remarked on the dangerous nature of the crime.
Whilst violent incidents of this nature are thankfully uncommon, I hope this lengthy jail term sends a strong message and reassurance to residents across Hertfordshire, that firearms and gang-related offending will simply not be tolerated.”
He also credited the successful prosecution to the complex and technical nature of the investigation, highlighting the collaborative efforts between detectives, prosecutors and support teams.
Special thanks were given to Counsel Patrick Dennis, Senior Crown Prosecutor Jan Muller, and Detective Constable Natasha Martin for their roles in bringing Jawara to justice.
Public reassurance: Hertfordshire Police continue to work proactively to disrupt violent crime and firearm offences across the county. Information can always be shared anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
