Man Jailed After Homemade Bomb Found Under Car in Hertfordshire
A jury has found Robert Kovacs, 38, guilty of attempted murder after a homemade bomb was discovered on a driveway in Borehamwood last August.
Deadly Device Sparks Evacuation in Quiet Town
On 16 August 2025, a homemade bomb was found lurking beneath a car parked outside a home on Cowley Hill, Borehamwood. The terrifying discovery triggered an emergency evacuation as Specialist Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams were called in to safely defuse the ticking time bomb.
Kovacs Denies Charges But Faces Heavy Sentencing

Kovacs, from Tenby Road, Edgware, denied all charges. But on Tuesday 3 March at St Albans Crown Court, the jury found him guilty. He remains in custody ahead of sentencing on 5 May.
Police Praise Bravery and Call Plot ‘Cruel and Calculated’
“This was a cruel, calculated and extremely serious crime,” said Detective Inspector Caeva Taylor. “Kovacs went to great lengths to plan an act that could have had catastrophic consequences for the intended victim and innocent members of the public living nearby.”
The detective also thanked local residents for their patience during the evacuation and praised officers for their bravery in protecting the community from disaster.
