Fury at the Ports: Strikes Slam Cross-Channel Ferry Services
Industrial action rocking Calais is set to cause chaos tomorrow, with major ferry operators DFDS and P&O Ferries slashing their schedules. The strikes, running from 8am to 5pm, will disrupt crossings and leave travellers stranded.
P&O Ferries Slash Crossings Amid Strike Chaos
P&O announced a dramatic cutback: only eight ferries will run tomorrow. Early departures kick off at 3.10am and 5am, then there’s an eight-hour shutdown until 1.40pm. Another quick trip at 3.10pm will be followed by hourly sailings from 5.25pm onwards. It’s a frustrating timetable for regular commuters and holidaymakers alike.
DFDS Cancels Key Route, Warns of Delays
DFDS confirmed disruption on its Dover-Calais route, cancelling the lone Sheerness-Calais sailing. Ferries to and from Dunkerque are safe but the firm warns it can’t guarantee time-specific bookings. A spokesperson said:
“Due to national industrial action in France, there will be severe disruptions in the Port of Calais on Thursday 19 January between 0800 and 1700, affecting all operators. Delivery and pickup of unaccompanied trailers will be halted for 24 hours with no access to the trailer park.
All Dover-Dunkerque departures will run normally to support customers. However, during disruption, time-specific bookings won’t be honoured – we will operate on a first-come, first-served basis. We apologise for the inconvenience and will provide updates throughout the day.”
Travellers Warned: Prepare for Major Delays
Ferry passengers are urged to plan ahead and brace for delays at Calais port. With industrial action grinding the crossing to a near halt, it’s a bitter blow for commuters, hauliers, and holidaymakers.
