At 6.30am Tuesday, disaster struck the A28 when an HGV jackknifed, blocking the road completely in both directions.

Recovery crews can’t move the vehicle until the trailer’s load is cleared. This means delays are set to continue while workers clear the site.
Drivers Face Long Diversions
A lengthy diversion is now in place: drivers are rerouted via A28 Ashford Road, through High Halden, then A262 into Biddenden, followed by the A274 and A229 into Maidstone, before taking the A20 back to Ashford. This circuitous route runs through Bethersden and High Halden, causing major disruption.
