A fire has broken out at a Sussex garden centre, and residents are being urged to keep their doors and windows shut after a fire ripped through the shop within the garden centre

At its peak, 12 crews were battling the fire at Staverton Nursery on Eastbourne Road in Halland, near Uckfield, according to East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service.

Drivers on the A22 are advised to avoid the area.

East Sussex Fire and rescue service stated that they were “scaling down” the operation, with six crews remaining on the scene.

They estimated that they would be on the scene for several hours.

The nursery announced that it will be closed until further notice.

The family-owned nursery, farm shop, and garden centre recently expanded.

Between the B2192 and Horsted Green, the A22 Eastbourne Road has been closed in both directions.
