A33 Exit near Winchester closed due to Serious Collision

The A34 northbound exit for A33 (just north of Winchester) remains closed due to a collision. Officers from joint operation roads policing unit from Hampshire Police based at Whitchurch and collision investigators remain at the scene. It is understood that investigation this is likely to be a long and protracted and the closure will remain until at least mid morning. The closure was put in place following a serious collision that saw fire crews from three stations attend. Fire crews from Eastleigh ,Winchester and Alresford, were mobilised to a person trapped on the A33 Winchester Road just before 2am. Crews used specialist cutting gear in an attempt to free those involved. Police are expected to issue a witness appeal later in the day. More to follow
