In a distressing incident, two disabled women were allegedly assaulted on a train journey from Ramsgate to London St Pancras International. The confrontation reportedly stemmed from a dispute over seating. British Transport Police have now launched an appeal and are seeking information related to the case.
The assault occurred on the 6.20pm service on Saturday, September 9. One of the victims, who uses a powered wheelchair, had parked in a designated bay and was seated in a passenger seat. The other victim, using a mobility scooter, parked in the designated area opposite the wheelchair and remained on her scooter.
Detectives indicated that the assault happened around 6.30pm, shortly after the train stopped at Margate railway station. It was at this point that two women, unable to find seats, approached the first victim and demanded her seat. Despite her explanation about her inability to vacate the seat, one of the women proceeded to assault her. The second victim, still on her mobility scooter, was also assaulted.
Both victims continued their journey, arriving at Gravesend railway station around 7.45pm, where the alleged assailants left the train. The victims were subsequently taken to the hospital by the London Ambulance Service after their arrival at London St Pancras.
In an effort to further their investigation, the British Transport Police have released images of women who they believe might possess crucial information regarding the incident. They are urging anyone who witnessed the event or has any relevant information to come forward.
