Border Force Staff at Heathrow Airport to Stage More Strikes During Half Term

Border Force staff at Heathrow Airport have announced further strike action, set to occur at the end of the upcoming half term period.

The strike dates are scheduled for 31 May, as well as 1 and 2 June, with subsequent action planned for three weeks following. This prolonged industrial action will include a work-to-rule policy and an overtime ban from 4 to 25 June.

Over 500 members of the PCS (Public and Commercial Services) union have voiced their concerns to the Home Office regarding the new roster system, following previous industrial action earlier in the month.

The PCS anticipates that these walkouts will disrupt passport checks for travellers entering the UK via Heathrow Airport.

Fran Heathcote, General Secretary of the PCS, stated, “We are keen to resolve this dispute but the Home Office must first put something on the table for our members to consider.

She added, “Until it comes back with changes to the roster that will benefit our members then the dispute will continue.”

Staff assigned to terminals 2, 3, 4, and 5 at Heathrow Airport previously undertook four days of strike action in the previous month.

We have reached out to the Home Office for comment.

In response, a spokeswoman for Heathrow Airport assured that they would collaborate with the Home Office to devise contingency plans aimed at minimizing disruptions to passengers. She noted that previous strikes had been “dealt with well” and “managed successfully.”
