Child Hospitalised Following Chemical Spill at Bexleyheath Flats

A child has been taken to hospital following a chemical spill at a block of flats in Bexleyheath. The incident occurred at Regal Walk near Albion Road shortly after 9:30 PM on May 24.

Firefighters were promptly dispatched to the scene, where approximately 30 residents had already evacuated the building. Crews utilized specialist equipment to contain the spill, which was located in a ground-floor storage room. They also conducted a thorough search of the premises to ensure that elevated chemical readings returned to safe levels.

The London Fire Brigade confirmed that one child was taken to hospital for treatment as a precautionary measure. Fortunately, no other injuries were reported.

The operation concluded for firefighters from Bexley and Erith shortly after 12:30 AM.

A spokesperson for the London Fire Brigade provided further details: “Firefighters were called to reports of a smell of chemicals at a block of flats on Regal Walk in Bexleyheath on May 24. Firefighters used specialist equipment to contain a spill of chemicals in a ground-floor storage room and ventilated the property. Crews carried out a sweep of the building to ensure elevated readings of chemical substances were returned to a safe level. Around 30 residents left the building before the Brigade arrived. One child was taken to hospital as a precaution.”

The spokesperson added that the incident was under control by 12:36 AM, with crews from Bexley and Erith fire stations attending the scene.
