Tragedy hit Cambridgeshire after a car carrying five teens plunged into the River Nene. One girl is dead, and a boy remains missing following the shocking crash.
Body of Teen Girl Recovered
Specialist divers pulled the body of a teenage girl from the river this afternoon. The car, with three girls and two boys aged 16 to 18, crashed off North Brink Road in Wisbech St Mary just after 8.20pm on Tuesday night.
Three passengers – two girls and one boy – escaped with non-life-threatening injuries and were rushed to The Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King’s Lynn.
One Teen Still Missing as Search Goes On
Cambridgeshire Police confirmed one teenager remains unaccounted for as divers scour the river. “North Brink is likely to stay closed for the rest of the day,” a police spokesman said.
Officers are calling on the public for help. Anyone with dashcam footage or information should come forward, quoting incident 515 of 17 March.
Witnesses Recall Terrifying Moments
Locals described the horror they saw.
“We saw the two boys get out of the car and then a girl screaming in the hedge. It was horrific. She was screaming so loud, it was piercing,”
Billy Cunningham told reporters.
“I heard an almighty crash with screaming and panic. It’s a miracle there were survivors,”
another resident recalled.
Dangerous Road Under Investigation
North Brink is a narrow, tidal road running alongside the River Nene, with depths between nine and 15 feet making search efforts tricky. The area remains cordoned off.
Local residents joined emergency teams, searching the riverbanks with torches late into the night, desperate for answers.
