“We knew he wasn’t breathing,” said Insp Keane. “We had to clear the crowd to begin life-saving efforts.”
The officers continued CPR and defibrillator use for about three minutes until firearms officers, trained in advanced medical care, arrived to assist.
Thanks to their swift actions and teamwork, the man regained a pulse and was stabilised before being transported to the hospital by the London Ambulance Service (LAS).
“It’s a testament to the importance of having a defibrillator nearby and being trained in first aid,” said Insp Keane, who has 19 years of service.
PS Fraser, with seven years in the force, emphasized the importance of teamwork:
“It’s about doing everything we can for the casualty and ensuring help is on the way. The support from our tactical firearms group and LAS was crucial.”
Commander Umer Khan praised the officers for their professionalism and life-saving efforts:
“I’d like to commend Inspector Keane and Police Sergeant Fraser for their remarkable composure and swift actions. Their teamwork and decisive response helped save the young man’s life. I am proud of the collaborative efforts across our force.”
This incident highlights the critical role of first aid training and the availability of defibrillators in emergencies, underscoring the importance of preparation and teamwork in saving lives.
