Neiland, who attempted to flee the scene, was apprehended by members of the public near the crash site. Police discovered stolen goods in his possession, including shoplifted items such as meat, cheese, and laundry detergent.

Tributes and Investigation

Michal Kaminski, a professional driver, was remembered by his family as a kind and hardworking individual. The family has expressed gratitude for the support they received during the investigation.

Phil Hanham QPM, the lead investigating officer, said:
“Michal was innocently going about his daily work when his life was cruelly cut short by the selfish actions of another driver. The dash cam footage of Neiland speeding in heavy rain is shocking and demonstrates his total disregard for the safety of others.

Hanham praised the work of the emergency services and investigation team, highlighting the contributions of DC Ian Stevens and PC Rob Giles in securing Neiland’s guilty plea.

Message to the Public

Hanham urged motorists to consider the devastating consequences of dangerous driving:
“This case is a stark reminder of the terrible impact reckless driving can have. It costs lives and leaves families devastated. If you drive dangerously, you risk prison and the irreversible loss of another person’s life.

This tragic incident has left a lasting impact on the emergency services, witnesses, and Kaminski’s loved ones, reinforcing the importance of responsible driving on the UK’s roads.
