Niger’s southwest witnessed a devastating episode as seven soldiers lost their lives in an attack by suspected rebels, while five others perished in a tragic traffic accident during their response to the assault. The incident occurred on Thursday, adding to the escalating violence in the region.

Niger’s Defence Minister, Salifou Mody, revealed that a military unit in the town of Kandadji was “violently attacked by several hundred terrorists,” resulting in the death of seven soldiers. Tragically, during the intervention launched in response, a traffic accident claimed the lives of five additional soldiers. Seven others sustained injuries and were evacuated to a hospital.
