Dean Jones And Lewis Daines Have Been Formally Identified As The Father And Son Who Died In A Failure To Stop Collision

Following reports of a collision, emergency services were called to Royston Road, on the bridge over Cudworth Parkway, Cudworth shortly after 9 p.m.

Mr Jones, 45, and Mr Daines, 16, are believed to have been cycling along Royston Road when they were hit by a vehicle. The vehicle failed to stop and drove away.

Mr Jones and Mr Daines were both pronounced dead at the scene by emergency personnel. Our specially trained officers are assisting their families, and they have requested that their privacy be respected during this difficult time.

A 37-year-old man was detained on suspicion of causing death through reckless driving. After being eliminated from our investigations, he was released with no further action.

Our Roads Policing Group is still looking for information and dashcam footage that could aid in the investigation. Officers believe the vehicle involved, a red Volkswagen Golf, was travelling along Royston Road towards Cudworth at the time of the collision.
