Young Man Dies in Riverside Blaze in Reading
A man in his twenties has tragically died following a fire near the River Kennet in Reading. Emergency crews rushed to the scene on Thursday evening but were unable to save him.
Flames Erupt at Rose Kiln Lane
Police and firefighters were called to Rose Kiln Lane at around 6:50pm on 19 March 2026 after reports of a fire near the riverbank. The first ambulance arrived shortly after, at 7:05pm.
The Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service (RBFRS) confirmed crews found the blaze on arrival and quickly brought it under control using a CO2 extinguisher and a backpack unit.
Death Treated as Unexplained, Not Suspicious
Thames Valley Police said: “A man aged in his twenties was pronounced deceased at the scene. His death is being treated as unexplained, but not suspicious.”
A file will be prepared for the coroner. His family has been informed and is receiving support.
An RBFRS spokesperson added: “Our thoughts are with their family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.”
Emergency Crews Battle Blaze for Hours
- Firefighters attended from 6:48pm and remained for three hours.
- Two ambulances were dispatched by South Central Ambulance Service.
- Police continue their inquiries but have ruled out suspicious circumstances.
