DIY SOS presenter Nick Knowles made a surprise appearance on Strictly Come Dancing: It Takes Two last night (September 23), wearing a sling following a painful bicep injury. The 62-year-old revealed on the show that his Strictly fate would be determined “today,” leaving fans concerned about his ability to continue in the competition.

Knowles, who performed a lively jive to We Built This City by Starship with his professional dance partner Luba Mushtuk on Saturday (September 21), suffered the injury the following day while changing a tyre. The pair danced during the first live episode of Strictly Come Dancing’s 20th-anniversary series, but the injury occurred while Knowles was on his way to a family party to celebrate his birthday on Sunday (September 22).
The TV presenter is scheduled to perform an American Smooth, which includes lifts, to Blur’s Parklife in the upcoming show. His dance partner Luba Mushtuk seemed confident, noting, “We still have a perfect position on our right arm. We are going to do perfect footwork in the foxtrot. We might even do the lift on that arm… I will just work around it. I will make it work.”

Mushtuk also lightheartedly joked that she would “sparkle” Knowles’ sling, while he added, “Luckily I’m very big, and Luba is very light, so one-arm lifts are possible.”

Judge Anton Du Beke praised Knowles’ performance from the weekend, describing it as “uplifting” and adding that he felt “elated” after watching the dance, which earned Knowles 18 points from the judges. To celebrate his birthday, fellow professional dancer Carlos Gu presented Knowles with a cake on the live show.

Fans of the show will eagerly await to see if Knowles is able to take to the dance floor for Strictly Come Dancing’s next episode, airing at 6:15pm on BBC One on Saturday, September 28.
