Gloucestershire Police Officer Charged with Disqualified Driving Offences

A shocking road rage incident unfolded on Whinchat Road in Plumstead, as a driver narrowly avoided a collision with a learner, only to give police officers the middle finger moments later. The incident, which took place on March 6 last year, resulted in legal consequences for the irate driver.

Gintautas Cibulskis, 46, attempted to overtake a police car on Whinchat Road when the unexpected occurred. As he navigated a bend, he found himself face-to-face with a learner driver coming straight at him in the oncoming lane. In a harrowing moment, both drivers had to perform emergency stops to avert a potential disaster.

Court documents confirm that Cibulskis, behind the wheel of his Vauxhall Astra, had to take evasive action. However, his reaction to the situation shocked onlookers and Police officers. As he pulled parallel to the police car, he brazenly displayed his middle finger while shouting, further escalating the already tense situation.

Cibulskis, residing at Erebus Drive in Thamesmead, initially pleaded not guilty to the charge of driving without due care and attention. Nevertheless, justice prevailed at Bromley Magistrates’ Court, where he was ultimately found guilty of the offence.

As a consequence of his actions, Cibulskis received a fine of £220, along with a £88 surcharge and £620 in court costs. Additionally, three penalty points were added to his driving license, serving as a stark reminder of the consequences of reckless behaviour on the road.

Incidents of road rage like this serve as a stark reminder of the importance of responsible and considerate driving. The roads can be unpredictable, and moments of inattention or aggression can lead to severe consequences for all involved.

Drivers are encouraged to remain patient, follow traffic laws, and avoid confrontations that can escalate quickly. Engaging in aggressive behaviour, like displaying offensive gestures or shouting, not only endangers lives but can also result in legal repercussions, as demonstrated by Cibulskis’ case.

In the interest of road safety and civility, all drivers must exercise caution and restraint while behind the wheel, ensuring that our roads remain safe for everyone.
