Emergency services were called to the A2 near Bluewater early Thursday morning following a single-vehicle collision caused by aquaplaning in treacherous weather conditions.
The incident occurred at approximately 4:40 a.m. when the vehicle lost control after hitting a large patch of standing water, overturning and blocking the carriageway. Kent Fire and Rescue Service dispatched two appliances to the scene to ensure it was made safe for other road users. Kent Police and National Highways officers were also in attendance, managing traffic and assessing the situation.
Lane closures have been implemented just before the M25 junction to allow emergency crews to work safely, leading to delays for commuters. Drivers are being urged to exercise extreme caution, adjusting their speed to the road conditions rather than adhering strictly to the speed limit, especially with the ongoing wet and hazardous weather.
A spokesperson for Kent Fire and Rescue Service said: “Our crews worked quickly to secure the area and mitigate any further risk to drivers. Thankfully, no serious injuries have been reported at this time.”
Kent Police are continuing their investigation into the incident. Motorists are reminded to remain vigilant and mindful of the risks posed by aquaplaning, particularly during heavy rainfall and poor visibility.
