A family’s baggage was stolen at London Gatwick Airport while they were “distracted,” police have said. Authorities are now appealing for information and have released CCTV images of a man they would like to speak to in connection with the theft.

Incident Details

  • The theft occurred between 11:35 AM and 11:50 AM on 12 December 2024 at the South Terminal check-in area.
  • The victims, a family preparing to board a long-haul flight, were targeted while checking in for their trip.
  • The stolen baggage contained high-value electronic devices, including Apple gadgets, laptops, Sony headphones, house keys, a wallet with bank cards, and scuba diving equipment, such as snorkels and a wetsuit.
  • The suspect allegedly boarded a bus to Crawley after the theft and later attempted to use the stolen bank cards in Langley Green.

Description of Suspect

Police have released the following description of the suspect:

  • Aged in his 30s
  • Beard
  • Wearing a dark blue jacket, blue jeans, black trainers
  • Dark or brown-coloured baseball cap

Police Appeal and Statement

Inspector Mark Robinson of Sussex Police said:

“We are investigating a report of theft of luggage from the terminal area at London Gatwick while the victim was distracted.

This was distressing for the victim, who was with his young family at the time and seeking to embark on a holiday ahead of a busy festive period.
Authorities are continuing investigations, and passengers at London Gatwick Airport are urged to remain vigilant against similar opportunistic thefts.
