The father of a 14-year-old boy who tragically died in a crash on the M6 over the Easter weekend has been charged in connection with his death, police have confirmed.
Emergency services were called just after 12:15pm on Sunday 20th April to reports of a serious collision on the southbound carriageway between junctions 34 and 33, near University Hill. A Peugeot van had left the carriageway and crashed into a tree. No other vehicles were involved.
The passenger, Ryan Liam Morgan, from Morecambe, suffered severe injuries and was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. His father, 31-year-old Daniel Burba, who was driving the van, also sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital. He has since been discharged.
Lancashire Police today confirmed that Daniel Burba, of Arnside Crescent, Morecambe, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving and causing death by driving while unlicensed and uninsured.
He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Lancaster Magistrates’ Court at 10am tomorrow (Monday 28th April).
In a statement, a Lancashire Police spokesperson said:
“Our thoughts remain with Ryan’s loved ones at this incredibly difficult time. They are being supported by specially trained officers.”
The heartbreaking loss of young Ryan has sent shockwaves through the local community, with tributes pouring in. Friends and family have described Ryan as a “bright and kind-hearted” boy. Many have taken to social media to express their grief, with heartfelt messages such as “Fly high, Ryan.”
