Two detained by police following Incident in Melville Street

Fire crews from the Island’s fire and rescue service have been called out this evening (Wednesday) to Melville Street in Ryde. Two appliances from Ryde was mobilsed just after 9pm after a call was made to the service advising of the alarm. A spokesperson for the service said two crews from Ryde Fire Station had been mobilsed after the alarm was raised just after 9pm. Firefighters carried out a search and the building was declared safe with no sign of fire. UPDATE Officers from Hampshire Constabulary have also attended the incident and two people have been removed from the property. Two people have has been arrested and taken to Newport Police for public order offences and possession of an offence weapon. One neighbour who asked not to be named said the man was carrying a knife and they called the police.
