Firefighters Tackle Blaze at Flat Conversion in Kensington

Fire crews were called to a three-story mixed-use building on Downham Way, Downham after a cooling unit in the basement began to smoulder yesterday evening.

At approximately 6:13 PM on July 17, fire crews from Lee Green, Lewisham, and Eltham were dispatched to the scene. Around 15 firefighters and three fire engines responded to the incident.

The smouldering cooling system in the basement prompted firefighters to isolate the power supply to the basement and secure the cooling unit to prevent further issues. Fortunately, there were no reports of any injuries.

A spokesperson for the London Fire Brigade provided details on the response: “Three fire engines and around 15 firefighters were called to reports of smoke issuing from a mixed-use building on Downham Way in Bromley. A cooling system in the basement of the three-storey building had begun to smoulder. Firefighters isolated the basement’s power supply and worked to make the cooling system safe. There are no reports of any injuries.”

The Brigade confirmed that the call was received at 6:13 PM and the incident was resolved by 6:58 PM. Crews from Lee Green, Lewisham, and Eltham fire stations attended the scene.
