A significant fire broke out on Tottenham Court Road late Sunday night, reportedly destroying part of a homeless camp and damaging nearby property.

Firefighters from the London Fire Brigade were called to the scene at 11:56 PM on November 17 and worked to extinguish the blaze, which damaged half of a tent, an electrical display board, and approximately four cubic metres of rubbish. Crews from Euston and Islington fire stations responded, and the incident was declared over by 1:06 AM on November 18.

Extent of Damage

The fire destroyed:

  • Four cubic metres of rubbish
  • Half of a tent
  • An electrical display board

Footage shared on social media shows firefighters tackling large flames while police worked to secure the scene. Debris from the fire was visible outside a restaurant on Tottenham Court Road, with some tents nearby appearing untouched.

The cause of the fire remains unknown. Authorities have not yet determined if the fire was accidental or intentional. The London Fire Brigade has confirmed that they are investigating.

A spokesperson for the London Fire Brigade said:

Firefighters tackled a fire on Tottenham Court Road in Central London. Around four cubic metres of rubbish were destroyed by the fire. Half of a tent and an electrical display board were damaged.”
