Firefighters from Cosham Fire Station in Portsmouth have gone the extra mile this holiday season by organising a special Christmas show for children who will be spending their holidays in the hospital.
In a heartwarming display of generosity and festive spirit, the firefighters decided to brighten the days of children at the Queen Alexandra Hospital by creating a Christmas grotto and putting on a memorable Christmas show.

The event was not only a treat for the young patients but also an opportunity for the firefighters to spread joy during this festive season.
Station commander Lee Sheen expressed the delight that the event brought to both the children and the firefighters, saying, “It’s very humbling for us as firefighters and everybody on the station. It’s something that we’re very proud that we do and we want to continue to do.”

The festivities kicked off with an entertainer taking the stage to entertain the children. However, some of the firefighters had to briefly pause their performance to respond to an important emergency call. To the children’s delight, it was none other than Santa Claus himself who required assistance.
Firefighters used an aerial platform to “rescue” Santa, who had become “stuck” in a “chimney” atop the station’s training tower. Once Santa was safely brought back to earth, he was invited into the station commander’s office, which had been transformed into a magical grotto adorned with bright lights, music, and a Christmas tree.
Santa was so appreciative of the firefighters’ help that he distributed presents to all the children at the event, spreading smiles and festive cheer all around.
Station commander Lee Sheen noted that this event provided a brief respite for the children, allowing them to temporarily forget about their worries and illnesses. He also mentioned that the Cosham firefighters plan to visit the children’s ward at Queen Alexandra Hospital on Christmas Day to continue sharing the holiday spirit by distributing gifts.
This heartwarming gesture by the firefighters has not only brightened the holiday season for these young patients but has also highlighted the compassion and dedication of those who serve their community, even during the busiest time of the year.
