A former Metropolitan Police trainee constable, Ishmael Donegan, aged 26 and previously associated with the North Area Basic Command Unit, is facing legal proceedings following a thorough investigation by the Metropolitan Police’s Anti-Abuse and Corruption Command.
Donegan, who was charged on Wednesday, September 6, now faces four counts of misconduct in a public office. These charges come as a result of an investigation that began in December 2021, initiated after allegations of computer misuse and the improper sharing of police information surfaced.
Detectives from the Met’s Anti-Abuse and Corruption Command led the investigation into these concerning allegations, which raised questions about the misuse of sensitive law enforcement data.
In December 2022, Donegan was interviewed by investigators regarding these allegations. Subsequently, in February 2023, he resigned from the Metropolitan Police.
Detective Chief Superintendent Caroline Haines, responsible for local policing in north London, emphasised the importance of maintaining the highest standards among police officers. She stated, “We expect our officers to uphold the highest standards, and allegations of wrongdoing will be investigated. Criminal proceedings are ongoing, and I am unable to comment further to avoid prejudicing this process.”
The investigation also led to charges against two other individuals as part of the same inquiry. Nonna Khabazz, aged 26, of Summer Road, Birmingham, was charged with two counts of encouraging misconduct in a public office. Likewise, Blain Brown, aged 23 and of no fixed address, faced two counts of encouraging misconduct in a public office.
All three individuals, including Donegan, Khabazz, and Brown, are scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, September 20.
